The United Kingdom 1 Pound coin from 1987 is a special Silver Piedfort edition, featuring the English Oak design as part of the Royal Diadem series. On the obverse, it showcases the third crowned portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem, with the Latin inscription "ELIZABETH II D·G·REG·F·D·1987 RDM" (Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith, 1987). The reverse side displays an oak tree infilling a representation of the Royal Diadem, with the denomination "ONE POUND." Made of silver (.925), the coin weighs 19 grams, has a diameter of 22.5 mm, and follows a round shape with a milled edge. It was part of the Royal Diadem series, commemorating England. The engraving on the edge reads "DECUS ET TUTAMEN," translating to "An ornament and a safeguard." Designed by Raphael David Maklouf (obverse) and Leslie Durbin (reverse), this non-circulating coin was minted at the Royal Mint in Llantrisant, United Kingdom. The coin was demonetized on October 15, 2017, and it comes with a beautiful Piedfort design, known for its thicker, heavier build compared to standard coins.
